Photo Gallery: Real Moments at Miyakodori
These guest photographs show what a traditional Asakusa ozashiki (geisha banquet) looks like in Miyakodori’s private rooms. Guests photograph the kimono, the music and games, and the laughter shared with working geisha.
A Glimpse Inside an Asakusa Machiai-chaya
Miyakodori is the only machiai-chaya in Asakusa. In a trade where guests traditionally came by introduction, this is the house that opened its doors to first-time visitors. Every ozashiki takes place in a fully private tatami room, with seasonal cuisine served through the evening.
Live Performances by Asakusa Geisha
Every ozashiki features live performances — classical shamisen music, traditional dance, and ensemble pieces passed down through generations of the Asakusa hanamachi.
Games That Bring Guests and Geisha Together
Games such as Konpira Fune-Fune and Tora-Tora are a central part of an ozashiki, with geisha and guests playing and laughing together. You do not need to speak Japanese, and first-time visitors quickly join in.
The Geisha Sumo Special Experience
This is a rare experience available only at Miyakodori in Asakusa. Trained sumo performers join the ozashiki alongside Asakusa geisha — two of Japan’s best-known traditions in the same tatami room.

Moments Shared With Guests From Around the World
No two evenings run the same way. The photographs below are from several of them — a quiet exchange with a geisha, a round of laughter, a group photo, and the goodbye at the entrance.
