Meet your artists
Licensed geisha of the Asakusa hanamachi — tachi-kata dancers and ji-kata musicians performing together. Every performance is live, never scripted.
About the hanamachiYour artists
Every ozashiki begins with 2 geisha — a dancer and a musician, performing together. You may add more artists to deepen the ensemble.
Our okami recommends three geisha — a dancer, a musician, and one more to deepen the stage — for a richer, more balanced performance.
Choose your geisha ensemble.
For parties of 6+, a third geisha joins automatically.
For larger ensembles, write to us — we’ll design the performance with you.
Exclusive option
Six are registered with the Asakusa kenban.
Hōkan (Taikomochi)
Only here in JapanA hōkan (also called a taikomochi) is a professional banquet entertainer — storytelling, song, comedy, and ozashiki games — who performs alongside geisha. Six are currently registered with the Asakusa kenban, and Asakusa is the only hanamachi in Japan where registered hōkan still work. You can request one to join your ozashiki.
What exactly is a hōkan?
Also called taikomochi — from taiko (drum) and mochi (to carry) — originally referring to those who carried the drum in grand processions. Over centuries the role evolved into a dedicated entertainer who accompanies geisha banquets, lifting the mood with wit, games, and live performance. Six hōkan are registered with the Asakusa kenban, and Asakusa is the only hanamachi in Japan where registered hōkan still work.
Add a hōkan to your ozashiki
Not sure how many? One is enough for most evenings — he works the room, tells stories, and runs the games with the geisha. To enjoy more of their art, choose two or more.
