Program Timeline
From arrival to farewell — every moment is crafted to bring you into Asakusa’s living ozashiki culture.
Arrival and Greetings
Welcome to Miyakodori. Remove your shoes at the entrance, step into the tatami room, and meet the geisha face to face for the very first time.
Seasonal Dance with Live Shamisen
A classical Japanese dance performed live, accompanied by shamisen — not on a stage, but right in front of you. Each dance reflects the season and the living tradition of Asakusa’s hanamachi.
Q&A with the Geisha
Ask the geisha anything — their training, daily life, the history of their art. An English-speaking staff member is on hand to bridge any language gap.
Ozashiki Game — Konpira Fune Fune
A reflexes duel set to shamisen rhythm. You and a geisha take turns reaching for a wooden bowl on a small stand — miss the beat and the room bursts into laughter. As the tempo rises, so does the excitement.
Matcha and Japanese Sweets
Enjoy a bowl of freshly prepared matcha alongside seasonal Japanese sweets — a quiet moment of calm after the games, served in the ozashiki (geisha banquet) setting.
Closing Dance and Tejime Finale
The session closes with a final dance and tejime — a traditional rhythmic clapping ceremony that marks the end of a gathering. A moment you’ll carry with you long after leaving Asakusa.
Geisha Farewell and Close
Photo session with the geisha, then farewell. Step back out into Asakusa with memories of a living tradition — and a story worth telling.

What You Get
What’s Included
Live Shamisen and Classical Dance
A real geisha performs a classical dance accompanied by live shamisen — not a recorded track, not a stage show. The music fills the room and the dancer moves just meters from where you sit.
Q&A with the Geisha
Speak directly with the geisha in a relaxed setting. Ask about their training, their craft, and the world of Asakusa’s hanamachi — a conversation rarely found elsewhere in Tokyo.
Ozashiki Game and Matcha
Play Konpira Fune Fune — a centuries-old reflexes game that breaks every barrier. Follow the game with a bowl of matcha and seasonal Japanese sweets served in the ozashiki (geisha banquet) tradition.
Photo Session and Tejime Finale
The session closes with a tejime — a traditional clapping ceremony — followed by a photo session with the geisha in full kimono. A memory in every sense of the word.
This is a living ozashiki experience led by working geisha in Asakusa’s hanamachi. It is not a staged re-enactment.

Is this a tourist attraction or the real thing?
This is a living ozashiki experience led by working geisha in Asakusa’s hanamachi. The geisha at Miyakodori are working artists who have trained for years in dance, shamisen, and the art of the ozashiki (geisha banquet). It is not a re-enactment — it is living tradition.
What should I wear?
Casual attire is perfectly fine. Please wear socks — bare feet are not appropriate on tatami.
Can I wear a kimono to the experience?
Absolutely — and you will fit right in. The ozashiki at Miyakodori is one of the most naturally photogenic settings in Asakusa: tatami floors and the presence of working geisha in full dress. Guests who arrive in kimono often find it deepens the experience considerably. If you are planning a kimono rental in Asakusa before your visit, we recommend coordinating it with your reservation.
Is Miyakodori a good place for photos?
Yes. The ozashiki room — tatami floors, seasonal flower arrangements, and the geisha in full dress — provides a naturally beautiful backdrop. A dedicated photo session with the geisha is included at the close of every program. Feel free to share your photos on social media.
